A cargo shipping service between Kankesanthurai in Jaffna and Nagapattinam in India is set to start on September 1, it has been revealed.
Connect Maritime LLP officials said this during a discussion with importers held at the Jetwin Hotel in Jaffna on Saturday (11).
The officials further said that Indsri Ferry Lanka, the Sri Lankan representative of Connect Maritime LLP, has started this service. The vessel MVBEYPORESULTAN will transport goods between KKS and Nagapattinam.
This shipping service is a boon for traders in the northern region. Currently, goods imported from India are brought to Colombo from Chennai Port and transported from Colombo to Jaffna in containers. This is a waste of time and material cost. The cost of bringing goods via Nagapattinam-KKS is low. The Kankesanthurai Port will be able to transport goods directly. They charge $650-675 for an 18-ton container. They pointed out that this ship is a ship that can be used in bad weather.
