Dr. Saman Ranjith Weerasinghe was presented the Russian State Award for “Friendship” yesterday (04) by the President of the Russian Mass.

It is one of the highest respects Russia offered to a civilian citizen, appreciating his service to strengthen diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between Sri Lanka and Russia for decades.

Dr. Saman Weerasinghe is the only Asian to receive the award in 2025, marking an important organization for global diplomatic existence in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Weerasinghe, an honorary graduate of Moscow Medical College, served as the Ambassador of the Russian community (2015 – 2018) and currently holds the positions of Secretary General of the Sri Lanka-Russian Friendship Association and President of the Colombo Russian Geographical Association.
