Protests in the North demanding the return of the missing

Members of the families of those who were forcibly abducted and disappeared in the North-East held protests yesterday (10).

A hartal was held in Mullaitivu to coincide with Human Rights Day, which falls on December 10.

The protest was organized by mothers who lost their loved ones. Families of the forcibly disappeared came in front of the Vavuniya Post Office and protested holding American and European Union flags. They protested, shouting, “Where are our children who were handed over to the army, what happened to them, we want justice.”

The fishermen’s organizations in the North held a protest in Jaffna town, saying that they trust the Anuradhapura government and demanded that the aquatic resources be protected against Indian fishermen coming to Jaffna. They held a protest march and handed over the memorandum to the Jaffna District Agent, the Governor and the Indian Consulate.

They held banners and over a thousand people participated in this protest.
