Was Gaddafi’s Son’s Assassination a European Plot? Investigation Begins

Libyan authorities have announced that they are conducting an investigation into the assassination of Saif al-Islam, the son of former leader Muammar Gaddafi, according to foreign media reports.

Saif al-Islam, who served as Gaddafi’s unofficial second-in-command, was shot dead by unknown gunmen at his home in the town of Sint-en-Thani, 136 kilometers from the capital Tripoli, on Sunday.

It is also reported that the suspects have not yet been identified. Foreign media are increasingly reporting that the information that Saif al-Islam was hoping to join the democratic government and was emerging as a popular political figure in Libya has raised suspicions that it could be a political assassination or a European coup.

Libya, bordered by countries such as Egypt, Algeria, Mali, Niger, Chad and Sudan, faces the Mediterranean Sea, where illegal activities, including arms trafficking, take place in Europe and the North African region, and his presence is reported to have posed a threat to the European region in the future.
