US President Donald Trump’s nephew Jared Kushner and Middle East special envoy Steve Witkoff have planned a $112 billion project to turn Gaza, destroyed by Israel, into a ‘smart city’ with luxury resorts, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the US is set to play a major role in developing the Gaza Strip as a high-tech city, and that the US will contribute 20% of the investment.

The Gaza Smart City Plan, dubbed the ‘Sunrise Project’, is a 10-year project that has reportedly attracted investors from 32 countries. The US also believes that the project, which includes luxury hotels, high-speed trains and new technological communication systems created with artificial intelligence, will turn the Gaza Strip into one of the most bustling metropolises on the Mediterranean coast.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the investment project’s promotional video states that the Gaza Strip will not only undergo a period of reconstruction, but will also develop into a gateway to prosperity in the Middle East with state-of-the-art infrastructure, urban planning and technology.

Kushner and Wittkoff have been planning the project for 45 days, and it has not yet been revealed which countries or companies will be the ones to finance the project.

The massive development does not include the necessary information to provide housing for the 2 million Palestinians displaced in the Gaza Strip, and only estimates the removal of 68 million tons of rubble that has already piled up in the Gaza Strip, which has been devastated by Israeli airstrikes for two years.

However, American military experts have also stated that the success of the Gaza development plan is doubtful, as a condition for the disarmament of the Hamas movement has been included in the peace plan.
