India’s Army chief to visit Sri Lanka

India’s Chief of the Army Staff, Gen. Upendra Dwivedi, will visit Sri Lanka from January 7-8 as part of India’s ongoing efforts to bolster defence cooperation and military-to-military relations with friendly nations.

During his two-day visit, Gen. Dwivedi is scheduled to meet with senior military and civilian leaders, including the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, the Deputy Minister of Defence, and the Defence Secretary.

Discussions are expected to focus on training collaboration, capacity building, and regional security.

He will also address officers at the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) and interact with personnel and trainees at the Army War College in Buttala.

As part of his visit, Gen. Dwivedi will pay homage at the IPKF War Memorial, honouring Indian soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Sri Lankan conflict.

The trip underscores India’s broader strategic objective of enhancing interoperability, mutual trust, and defense cooperation with countries in the Indian Ocean Region and West Asia.(Source- The Leader)
